Day 24 Heading to the Capital of South Dakota

Today was a 120 mile ride from Wall Drug to Pierre SD.  It was a long and hot ride that took 9 hours (and for Susan - burned 3748 calories).  Not a lot of pictures or stories.

One cute story that was told last night.  It seems one of the riders, Gary from Pittsburgh, was at Wall Drugs 56 years ago with his parents.  He saw a special jackknife with a carved handle and wanted it in the worst way.    His parents would not let him get it (today if he had it and went to school he would be suspended - so perhaps his parents were ahead of their time).

In any case his riding teammates heard the story and presented Gary with the exact knife that he wanted 56 years ago.  I guess the inventory does not change much at Wall Drug.  Gary was bowled over.

Again on the ride - not much to see or shoot. Long roads that went forever (again)...

Almost looks like yesterdays ride...

We passed through the town of Cottonwood, population 44.  Someone painted a jail sign on an abandoned building.

There was not a tree to be had, or a store that was open on the ride.  Our sag stop was under a park shelter- the only shade around...

We finally arrive in Pierre and cross the Missouri and into the Central Time Zone.

Getting closer to home.  Long Ride - short blog.  pretty tired.

Omg... The leanto sag stop is extreme...the ribbons of road actually look pretty cool (not temperature wise). WOW on the calories. You need more brownies, sundaes and anything caloric! Me thinks tomorrow is your halfway day yes?!?!?!
